Tell NC Lawmakers: Oppose SB724 and Protect Online Voter Registration

Online voter registration (OVR) helped tens of thousands of voters of all parties access the ballot during the pandemic. North Carolinians deserve an easy and uncomplicated OVR process. 

Senate Bill 724 not only commits taxpayer dollars to enforce the state's blocked voter ID law, but also plays politics with North Carolina’s popular OVR process in ways that will disenfranchise voters. Right now, SB724: 

• creates a redundant and restrictive process for registering to vote online via the State Board of Elections,
• fails to fund the capacity, access, and technology needed to house this critical work with an already underfunded State Board, and
• codifies a complicated web of administrative actions that invite errors in upcoming elections and could disenfranchise voters.

SB 724 is being fast-tracked and is expected to receive a floor vote in both the NC Senate and House in the coming days. It will appear alongside other anti-voter bills like SB 326, which would effectively toss thousands of absentee ballots, and SB 725, which makes it harder for counties to fund their fair elections.
