Tell Your Lawmakers: Barriers to Voting Have No Place in NC's Budget

The North Carolina General Assembly was sent to Raleigh to pass a state budget that addresses North Carolinians’ needs. Instead, the latest proposed House Budget and the version passed by the Senate on June 24, 2021, both include a number of attacks on North Carolina’s elections, including provisions that:

• strip the authority of the State Board of Elections and Attorney General to quickly act on behalf of voters in election-related lawsuits; 
• earmark millions of our taxpayer dollars to prop up a blocked voter ID law; and
• distract from North Carolinians’ true priorities like Medicaid expansion, teacher pay, and dollars to make voting safer and easier. 

These kinds of partisan attacks on elections are part of a national trend that has been happening in states across the country.
